Imagine a day where: not-for-profits and charities can operate profit generating ventures without putting legal status at risk. Where social entrepreneurs have access to affordable capital that allows their multiple-bottom-line business to grow.
Here are some initiatives, currently underway, leading to that day.
Social Finance Forum
The annual Social Finance Forum drives the development of the impact investment marketplace in Canada by convening players from across sectors to collectively address key concepts and issues that are central to the field. The conference features investment pitch sessions from social ventures alongside solution-focused and skill-building workshops.
Social Enterprise World Forum
The 2013 forum will be hosting over 1,200 individuals from more than 30 countries in Calgary, Alberta. The event will be focusing on six program tracks: impact investing, indigenous social enterprise, social enterprise skills building, research and public policy, cross-boundary collaboration and social innovation.
Canadian Task Force On Social Finance
The Task Force on Social Finance provides seven key actions that Canada needs to undertake, in parallel, to mobilize new sources of capital, create an enabling tax and regulatory environment, and build a pipeline of investment ready social enterprises.
The GIIN is a non-profit organization focused on leveraging the effectiveness of impact investing by addressing barriers to impact investing and building critical infrastructure. GIIN advances research, activities, and education that help grow more investment capital to poverty alleviation and environmental solutions.
Using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems, B Corps create higher quality jobs and improve the quality of life in our communities. Organizations that are certified by the nonprofit B Lab have to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.

The School for Social Entrepreneurs – Ontario contributes to transformational social change by providing action-based and practical learning for social entrepreneurs in Canada. SSE-O is a proud member of an international network of schools located across the UK and Australia.
