Access To Capital: A Briefing Paper – September 2009
This Venturesome short report updates the 2008 Financing Civil Society paper in the light of current discussion regarding a potential Social Investment Wholesale Bank.
It looks at the third sector’s current ability to access capital (whether in grant or loan form) and reappraises the barriers to charities doing so. It suggests characteristics of a functioning market in which charities could freely access appropriate capital, and outlines some of the existing initiatives helping make some of those characteristics a reality.
The paper is intended to provide some context to the current debate around the roles a Social Investment Wholesale Bank might play.
